Location: Based in East Africa straddling the equator and
sharing borders with several countries to include Kenya, Mozambique and Zambia.
Capital: Dar-es-Salem
History: The nation of Tanzania was formed in 1964 when
shortly after independence, Tanganyika and Zanzibar merged.
Tanzania is home to one of the highest free standing mountains on earth,
Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro is also the highest point in Africa and due to its
placement, just 3 degrees south of the equator, is also one of the closest point
in the world to the sun. Kilimanjaro is bordered by three of the largest lakes
on the continent: Lake Victoria (the world's second-largest freshwater lake) in
the north, Lake Tanganyika (the world's second deepest) in the west, and Lake
Nyasa in the southwest. Apart from Kilimanjaro, Tanzania's other attractions
include Safari tours to the Ngorongoro crater, Mt Meru, Lake Munyara, Tarangire
and Arusha National Parks, where wildlife is abundant.
