Inca Trail Permits

Trekking permits are required for anyone doing the trail. These are arranged by ourselves, but as only a limited number are available per day, we will require about 3 month advance warning to book the permits. As such, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to trek on your required dates if we are given short notice.

INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU

 

 

ITINERARY - INCA TRAIL

 

Day 1. Arrival in Lima, Peru

 

Day 2. Fly Lima to Cuzco. Day at leisure

 

Day 3. Cuzco and surrounds

Free morning. Afternoon visit to the main ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay, followed by a city tour of Cuzco.

 

Day 4: Sacred Valley - Ollyantaytambo (BL)

Full-day excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Inca and then a visit to Ollantaytambo

 

INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU STARTS

 

Day 5: Cuzco to Wayllabamba (BLD)

The Inca Trail trek starts at Km82 by the Vilcanota River. We then trek up past Llactapata and Patallacta ruins, arriving at camp around 17h00.

 

Day 6: Wayllabamba- Pacaymayu (BLD)

Today we climb up through the first pass at 4,200 m/13,750 feet at Warmiwanusqa. Passing 3 ecological areas such as the Yunga, Quechua and Puna. we will climb 1000 metres in 5 hours. Today camp and dinner near Pacaymayu. Overnight on the trail.

 

Day 7.Pacaymayu - Winayhuayna (BLD)

Today is a much easier and shorter day. After breakfast, we will trek up the second pass to the archaeological sites of Runquraqay and then down to  the restored town site of Sayaqmarka . We will then head along the original granite Inca Trails to the archeological Phuyupatamarka ("Cloud Level Town ") and have lunch. We will then begin the decent to Winaywayna where a visit of the ruins and have dinner will conclude the day..

 

Day 8. Winayhuayna - Machu Picchu - Cuzco (B)

Early morning wake up at 4:30 a.m.for breakfast and to begin the trek to be the first at the archaeological site of Macchu Picchu for the sunrise. Orchids and hummingbirds are commonly seen along this spectacular section of the trail high above the river. We will arrive at Intipunko "Gate of the Sun" to observe the sunrise over Macchu Picchu. A guided tour of the marvelous citadel, visiting the Main  Plaza, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of Three Windows, the  Circular Tower and the Sacred Sun Dial and Burial Grounds. After the guided tour, transfer to Aguas Calientes onto the train station for your return train to Cuzco . Arrival and transfer to your hotel.

 

Day 9. Cuzco to Lima  (B)

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Cuzco and back to Lima

 

Day 10. Depart Lima(B)

Difficulty

A combination of long days with steep paths and some mountain scrambling. The route follows reasonable paths through thick vegetation, up hillsides, slippery shale surfaces.  Snow and or ice may be encountered along the route. There is no need for technical climbing equipment. Altitude levels up to and around  to 4200m. Medium risk of altitude sickness.

 

Good cardio vascular fitness is needed with weight and circuit training and running. Lots of hill walking. Backpacks will weight about 4-5kg and contain water, camera and essentials.
