A combination of very long days with steep paths, boulders and some mountain scrambling. The route follows reasonable paths through thick vegetation, up hillsides, across rocky areas, and slippery shale surfaces. Glaciers and snow may be encountered, there is not need for technical climbing equipment. Due to higher levels of altitude, symptoms of altitude sickness may be experienced. Ice picks may be required dependant on time of year. Altitudes up to 6000m.
Trip Notes
Island peak requires some technical climbing on the final day, with a rope, ice pick and crampons. However, prior technical expertise is not required.
For those not used to high altitude treks, a long route should be followed.

ISLAND PEAK TREK - 14 DAYS
ITINERARY - ISLAND PEAK
Day 01 Arrive Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel
Day 02: Full day guided sightseeing around of the Kathmandu valley, taking in such sights as Swayambhunath, one of world's most glorious, ancient, enigmatic and holiest of Buddhist Chaitya, Bouddhanth, a colossal and ancient Stupa; Guheshwari, which is where Sati, the consort of Siva, immolated herself due to her father's insult and Pashupatinath with two tiered golden roof and silver doors.
Day 03: Flight: Kathmandu (1,310m) - Lukla (2,840m). Trek to Phakding (2,610m). (2-3 hours)
Early morning transfer to airport for flight to Lukla. The flight into Lukla is a lifetime experience, in itself. The airfield is on a slope and the difference between the two ends of the runway is about 60 meters! Here, you will meet with your trekking crew and identify your gear. Then, after lunch we will begin the trek for a few hours along the Dudh Kosi River to the village of Phakding2,610 m.
Day 04: Trek Phakding to Namche (3,440m) (5-6 hrs)
We continue north up the Dudh Kosi valley to Jorsale, where we officially enter the Sagarmatha National Park. After we have cleared our trekking permits, we continue along the trail, crossing the BhoteKosi River to begin the steep climb up to Namche Bazaar 3,440m.
We will also get glimpses of Mt.Everest from the trail along the way.
Day 05: Rest day at Namche for acclimatization
Namche is the famous picturesque Sherpa village and we will spend a day at rest, or to enjoy walking round the village and visiting the Sherpa museum. Overnight Camp or Lodge
Day 06: Trek Namche to Dingboche (3,860m) (5 hrs)
Our trek today will afford us incredible views of the of Thamserku as we steadily descend to the Imja Khola. Here, we will see a series of water driven prayer wheels. After lunch will begin our 2 hr ascent to the famous Tengboche Monastery (3,860m) - one of the most beautiful places in the world. Overnight Camp or Lodge.
Day 07: Trek to Chhukung (4730m / 7 hrs)
From Dingboche, we then head east into the Chhukhung Valley, which lies directly under an incredible rock wall that links Nuptse with Lhotse. From here you will also have magnificent views of the incredible Amadablam (6856 m)
Day 08: Island Peak /Imja Tse Peak Base Camp (4 hrs)
Today, we trek along the Imja Khola to Pareshaya Gyab, a pleasant site by a small lake with fine views of the Lhotse Glacier and Nuptse-Lhotse wall. You will reach the Base Camp of Imja Tse today. Once camp has been set up you will be free to get your climbing gear in order and get organized for your ascent of the peak tomorrow
Day 09: Summit Island Peak/Imja Tse Peak (6160m). Return to Chhukung
You will start early for the summit. The going gets difficult once you reach the bottom of the steep icefall below the summit. Great care and caution must be exercised while scaling the wall to emerge on the ridge leading to the summit. After the summit, you will descend back down to the Base Camp and Chhukhung
Day 10: Contingency Day
in case of bad weather, or acclimitisation lower
down the mountain.

12: Trek to Namche (3,440m) (4 hrs)
The trail today will descend quite steeply as we head back down towards Namche. To get to camp, there will be a steep climb to reach our overnight stop

13: Trek Namche to Lukla (2,840m) (7 hrs)
Trek further to the mountain airstrip at Lukla to catch your return flight to Kathmandu Weather permitting your trekking crew might prepare a farewell treat for you. Overnight Lukla
Day
14: Flight: Lukla (2,840m) - Kathmandu (1,310m) Hotel
Day
15: Free day to explore Kathmandu. Hotel Overnight
