ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP TREK

ITINERARY - ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP TREK

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu overnight at the Hotel

Day 02: Guided Sightseeing in Kathmandu and some preparations for the climb.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Pokhara.Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Hotel Overnight.

Day 04: Drive: Pokhara - Nayapul  & Trek to Ghorepani ( 2774).

The trail ascends a steep stone staircase to Ulleri village then more pleasantly through rhododendron forest. There is a hut with water and a small camp site about 1 hr. above Ulleri, and further on the stream is followed, providing water for a meal stop. Arrive at the top of the Ghorepani pass and camp there.

Day 05  Ghorepani  - Tadapani

Spend the day walking through the magnificent stand of giant rhododendrons and taking in the breathtaking scenery

Day 06  Tadapani - Chhomrung.

Dropping down from Tadapani Ghandgung offers good views of the upper Modi valley. The route starts the long ascent high above the west bank of the Modi Khola. The village of Chhomrong lies tucked at the very base of Himal Chuli

Day 07 Chhomrung - Himalaya Hotel

Proceed to Kuldi Ghar 2 1/2 to 3 hrs.  There is a clearing  in the forest a little further on. From there the route goes very steeply down a bank of rock and then levels out, running through thickets of  bamboo at the bottom of the gorge, while we keep to the west side of the river. We pass the pasture of Tomo, and then the very neck of the gorge at  pantheon Barah, where there is a small trail and a shrine. Then the track climbs to Himalaya hotel at the camp site.

Day 08  Annapurna South Base Camp Visit

We continue up the broad grassy path for about 1 and 1/2 hr. and then climb on to the lateral moraine and down the other side on to the glacier. Walking up the bed of the glacier is safe and quite easy and the British Expedition Base Camp is reached after another 1 and 1/2 hr. Base camp is at 4,237 m. The trip is best done from the lower camp, carrying only lunch, and the best views are probably obtained from the crest of the moraine, which may  have been cut by the glacier flowing down from Himal Chuli to the north.

Day  09: Machhapuchhre Base Camp or Annapurna south Glacier basin ( 3,858m)

The track remains on the west bank of the Modi, now flowing through a more open valley, and eventually emerges into the Sanctuary.  Straight ahead is the high lateral moraine of the south Annapurna glacier and the Modi follows a deep cliff to the right. This is the site of Machhapuchhre base camp and one can either camp here or continue northwest, staying above the glacial moraine.

Day 10 Annapurna Base Camp - Dovan

Ascend for an hour to Annapurna Base Camp  and then descent and follow the same route to a pleasant camp spot at Dovan

Day 11 Dovan - Modi Khola

Once we have passed Khuldi Bikas where there is an experimental sheep Farm, the trail continues through rhododendron and bamboo fields. After Chhomorung the trail continues steeply up stony steps to Kabre Chautara and soon after the trail to Landrung leaves the Ghandrung path dropping away towards the river.

Day 12 Modi Khola - Dhampus

Walk towards the easy way down to the Gurung village, Landrung.  Then all the way down to Dhampus.

Day 13 Dhampus - Pokhara

All the way down to Pokhara via Phedi, then drive to Pokhara. Hotel in Pokhara.

Day 14: Morning flight to Kathmandu. Free Day. Overnight Hotel.

Day 15: Final Departure from Nepal at the end of your Annapurna trekking experience.
